School and education – with heart and head

Great importance is attached to education at the Bright Horizon Children’s Home.

Nepal’s state schools are in a desolate state, classes of up to 50 pupils are not uncommon, and the teachers have very few school materials.

The classes consist of 20 – 25 children. At the BHCH the children receive a very good education at the internal school (2 years kindergarten and classes up to 10th grade), where qualified local teachers teach.

The schooling is completed with the School Leaving Certificate (SLC), which is a prerequisite for attending college. BHCH students regularly score above average on the SLC exams, which are the same for all students nationwide.

In addition to the school lessons, the children receive instructions in cooking, sewing, handicrafts and gardening.

Even after leaving the BHCH, the young people are supported and supervised on their training path. To date, around 380 young people have successfully completed the 10th school year and are now in vocational training, attending college or university, or are already in professional life.

BHCH intends to accompany all young people to professional independence.
